Q

Quartz light - a film/video/theatrical light unit that uses a tungten/halogen quartz bulb or globe. Iodine gas fills the quartz glass bulb enclosing the tungsten filament, which extends it's longevity and stabilizes it's color temperature to the moment of burnout. Quartz lights are generally 3200K in color temperature. They are becoming less used due to power consumption and heat production ratios. As other types of more efficient lighting sources become better developed and adapted to film/video production lighting, they are becoming less of the standard they have been in production history. However, some D.P.'s , lighting directors and gaffers hold a solid appreciation for the warmth and "wrap" tungten quartz lights possess.

Quiet (on the set) - means what it says. Whenever the A.D. or Floor Director says it, whatever you were talking about can wait till after the take.

There are not a whole lot of grip or lighting items under the letter "Q"! Drop us a note if you have any ideas.
